Moriones Festival and Via Crucis on Marinduque’s Lenten celebration




Moriones Festival and the Via Crucis or the way of the cross have been part of the annual Lenten celebration of Marinduque. These are just some of the events that the people of the province anticipate during this season. There are also tourists from other places who visit here just to witness this extraordinary and unique celebration. It involves the re-enactment of the passion of Christ on the Calvary and also the “Longinus beheading” or when the Romans beheaded Longinus. Many people come together on the street and watch it live.

Balanacan Port, "Gateway to the heart of the Philippines"


Barangay Balanacan was the entrance and exit of the province of Marinduque aside from this it is the largest barangay in the province. While you are riding on a roro you will get attracted by beautiful sceneries and spots and most especially the grotto of Our Lady of Biglang-Awa patroness of the whole province.

Old bell of the Boac Cathedral

Old bell of the Boac Cathedral parish in Boac, played an indispensable role to the religious and significant events in the province of Marinduque since 1622.

Retablo

Boac cathedral’s altar or the “retablo” is one of the most important parts of the church. Wooden sculptured images of saints placed inside the church and painted having spotlights to emphasize the beauty of each sculpted images of saints.

Sculpted wooden door of the cathedral bares the images of the four evangelists, namely St. Luke, St. Mathew, St. John, and St. Mark Each of them were symbolized by ox, angel or a man, eagle and lion.

Boac Cathedral

Spanish inspired design church during World War II year 1972. This church is made-up of stones, adobe and bricks that enhanced the church interior and exterior that made it more antique and beautiful in style.
